On holidays and special occasions, the Jones family often traveled to Salinas. During these visits my uncle Bill would bring his golf clubs and bowling ball. I had the great pleasure of pushing his golf cart around the Salinas Fairways when he played golf with my dad. I was his caddie, he was very easy to caddie for, as his expectations were pretty low....golf is very humbling. That never stopped him from trying his best, every few swings or so, uncle Bill would hit a sweet shot, he would have this brightness in his eyes, a pep in his step as he continued round.
As the evening came upon us, we would pile into the back of the green truck. Time to go bowling.
I can still see his blue and black bowling ball rolling down the lane, a little skip in his step as he released the ball, a nicely folded towel hanging from his back pocket. He would get his share of strikes and spares, again that brightness in eyes, smile on his face. Super GREAT Times!!
Thank you uncle Bill Jones for the memories.
