Wiley Quan's Obituary
Wiley Quan passed away January 2, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Miyo, their children, Bryan and Dina, and grandson, Everett. He was born Yuen Heon Quan on November 22, 1935 in San Francisco, CA, to father Lung Gim Quan and mother Tai Qow Yee (both predeceased). He has two older siblings, Henry Quan and Lillian Lam, and two half siblings, Lisa Wong and William Fong by his half-mother, Shiu Yuen Fong. He served in the Army during peacetime (1956-1958) and it was when he was stationed in Okinawa that he met Miyo. They married in 1959 and raised their family in Mountain View, CA. He spent the rest of his life nurturing and supporting his entire extended family, always the one to handle all of life’s ups and downs, constant in his attention to everyone’s well-being and happiness. Dear to his heart, Wiley was vigilant in his efforts to continue his many friendships from his childhood, growing up in San Francisco, and the Flying Eagles Club, an after school group from his days at Polytechnic High School. He often initiated and helped to organize regular group gatherings and reunions—some of his most cherished memories. He also continued friendships with coworkers from his last place of employment, Harris/Farinon, where he was a Project Engineer in Microwave Technology for 33 years until his retirement in 1997. His friends describe him as kind, generous, gracious, and dependable. He will be missed by all. Always the adventurer, Wiley loved to travel, visiting places such as China, Russia, France, and many cruises around the world. His job also sent him all over the globe to places as far and varying as England and India. It also brought him great joy to expose his grandson to ‘new’ lands, often planning trips for the entire family. During his ‘retirement’, Wiley volunteered over 4000 hours at the VA Palo Alto Health Care, driving a golf cart thru the parking lots, transporting patients safely to the hospital entrance and back to their vehicles. It was this same ‘care’ that he provided for his family that brought him joy in his volunteer efforts. His favorite pastime was following his favorite Bay Area sport teams—SF Giants, SF 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors. Wiley was also an avid runner, entering many local races, including Bay to Breakers! In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (in the memo section of your check, please state “General Post Fund #2207″) http://www.paloalto.va.gov/giving/index.asp. We thank everyone for their kindness during this difficult time. It is comforting to know how much our father not only meant to us, but to everyone he knew and loved.”
