Shahrzad Hessabi's Obituary
Our dear Shahrzad left this world on Monday, May 26 after battling Neuroblastoma cancer for the past 2 ½ years. Shahrzad was born on Aug 18, 1961 in Tehran, Iran. She was an Industrial Engineer. When she moved to the US, she was a curriculum developer and a project manager. Shahrzad and I were fortunate enough to share 20 wonderful years together, but still I would do anything to be able to have more time with her. Sometimes it seems as though we had always known one another, but in fact we met at work. I was a new hire, and she was supposed to show me around. Some may not believe this, but I looked into her eyes and I fell in love. I complimented her on her beautiful eyes often. It took a few months and a few ‘No’s’ before she finally decided to go out with me and few months later she said ‘Yes’ to my marriage proposal.Soon afterwards we decided to have children and so she gave birth to our first daughter, Anahita. Seven years later, she gave birth to our second daughter Armita. I knew she loved me, but not to the extent that she loved our girls. I knew I had lost the battle to being her #1. She loved them more than anything in this world. I don’t blame her. I used to tell Shahrzad all the time, ‘I love you more than myself and you know how much I love myself’. She wouldn’t say anything but a beautiful smile in response.Shahrzad loved to paint, and she was great at it too. We loved to travel. Cooking homemade meals for the family was very important to her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and daughter who seemed to always think about others before thinking of herself. She will be remembered for her compassion, kindness and devotion. Though she never really stopped working, in the last few years of her life, Shahrzad devoted every ounce of energy she had in helping the girls with their homework, projects, cooking meals, keeping up with the housework all while undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, blood transfusions and frequent visits to the ER. She spent the last 63 days of her life at UCSF.And now, sadly, that time has ended. I stand here today hoping to utter words that would in some way illuminate how special Shahrzad was; I wanted to tell the world how much she meant to me, and how much joy she brought to so many people. I will end with simple words, words simple and true, words which she heard over and over and words she never got tired of hearing:I love you, Shahrzad.I always will.Graveside Service will be held on June 5, 2014 at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, California at 2:15pm.Memorial will be held at Faz Restaurant, in Sunnyvale on June 8th from 3:00 -7:00 pm.
