Uncle Raymond was always our favorite uncle. And that is quite the understatement if you knew him. Growing up, he spend so much time and love dedicated to enriching our minds. He was always so thoughtful and amazingly creative — what other adult would spend hours running around with kids passionately pretending to be in the Harry Potter world, or slamming around plastic lightsabers with a scarily realistic yoda impression? His passion and energy for his family seemed endless and I’m am thankful for his guidance and love. And as we got older, he would pay careful attention not only to what we were accomplishing in school, but what our interests and passions were, and always had something to discuss, or a book to recommend. When I’d show him my art, unlike most parents who’d say something like, “oh that’s nice”, he’d launch into a full critique, complete with references and a breakdown of the technique.
When you left a movie with him (and mostly when it was a Star Wars, comic book inspired, or Harry Potter movie) he’d patiently wait to hear what you thought of it, with pursed lips, before artfully ripping apart the the film (he taught us to be critical thinkers).
And then seeing him with Aubrey will always be the most wonderful thing. Seeing them play, you knew he was giving her 100% of his love, attention, and creativity. He cares so much. And the memories made with him are so special. We miss him a lot and appreciate how much he has done for everyone around him.
Love,
Amanda
