Mimie Tse
In Memory of Cousin Phyllis
My name is Mimie, my husband Edison is Phyllis’ cousin. I would like to describe my relationship with Phyllis as the old days’ pen pal, today’s 网友. Looking back at the long list of exchanges we had via WhatsApp, it first started in 2014. Our communications got more frequent in 2021 when COVID was keeping everyone home. At first we mostly shared information on how to stay healthy and avoid getting sick with COVID. We talked on the phone as well, oftentimes having hourlong conversations. Through our communications we found out we shared a lot of “old world’s values”. Phyllis was an avid reader. She would share with me posts from newspaper or clippings from some articles that touched her. We exchange our points of views about how to live a peaceful life at old age. Sometimes she would send me songs that she liked and stories about people she admired. Every one of Phyllis’ friends knew that she loved her husband YK. She was so dedicated to YK she didn’t bother to change the WhatsApp to her own name. I was very surprised when she shared a post about Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s family history. Her comments about him was full of admiration - “人生羸家”!
Phyllis and I shared lots of posts on philosophy, political topics, humorous clippings, opinions about famous people, songs and lots of “心靈鸡汤”,I am going to miss her forever! I will treasure the exchanges we had via WhatsApp, thanks to the modern information technologies.
Goodbye 玉姊,一路走好!奉上妳转发给我的一首Engelbert Humperdinck的Last Walltz, 願妳和YK在天堂盡情的跳waltz!
