Peter Seth Wantuch's Obituary
Peter S. Wantuch, 72, of Burlingame, California, passed away peacefully in his home on February 13, 2025. He was born in New York on May 13, 1952 and grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. Peter's early years were spent exploring the forests and building tree houses, sparking a lifelong love for nature.
From a young age, Peter showed a remarkable talent for sports. He learned archery at the age of 10 and earned an American Archer Award for his achievements. In high school, he excelled in fencing, becoming a nationally ranked top ten fencer. Peter further pursued this sport at the University of Maryland, where he continued to compete in fencing and earned a distinguished spot to train with the US Olympic program for the 1976 Olympics.
Peter had a successful career in health insurance, culminating in the establishment of his own employee health benefit consulting company in 1988. He ran this successful venture until his retirement in 2015.
Peter had a profound love for nature, finding in its beauty and tranquility a deep spiritual connection that nourished his soul. In his later years, Peter discovered a love for fly fishing, which became a cherished pastime, and he passed on his love of this through volunteering with Trout in the Classroom and river restorations. He was also passionate about gardening and created many beautiful gardens.
Travel was another significant aspect of Peter’s life, one of his most memorable journeys being a trip to Israel in 2011. He spent his summers in Sweden with his beloved wife, Jenny, and he also cherished the time spent with his daughters, grandchildren, and friends.
Peter is survived by his wife, Jenny; his daughters, Jennifer and Michelle (from a previous marriage to Molly Wantuch); son-in-law Vik; brother-in-law Stefan; and two beautiful grandchildren Nadal and Freyda, who brought him immense joy and laughter.
A funeral service will be held at Skylawn on March 4th at 11 am. A reception after the funeral will be by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Peter Wantuch's honor to support cancer research specifically for multiple myeloma and/or pancreas cancer.
