One time that sticks out in my mind with Aunt Penny was on one of our first family trips to California. I think I was about seven years old or so. We did the normal stuff families do visiting California; Disney Land, Universal Studios, the beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town etc. She was an incredible tour guide. Being near the ocean I wanted to try sushi, I suppose because the idea of eating raw fish was new, strange, and a little bit scary. All things a kid can get into. I don’t remember if my parents were excited about the idea but I recall Aunt Pen being very enthusiastic. I remember walking into the restaurant and having to take my shoes off, which was also a first, normally I got yelled at for that kinda of behavior. There was a large table and we got to sit on the floor on pillows, also a new and improved way of dining. When I looked at the menu, I didn’t really care what I ordered as long as it wasn’t cooked. I remember her trying to explain to my daring mind that they had other things that were cooked but I was adamant and ordered tuna. Needless to say, I didn’t really like it. Aunt Penn knowing this would probably be the result, had also ordered something more attuned to a sever year old pallet, which I thoroughly enjoyed. These days sushi is a great treat for me and I’ll always remember that first try with Aunt Penny. Miss you, Collin
