Marvin Edgar Castro's Obituary
Marvin Castro, 52, of Millbrae died January 19, 2017 from multiple organ failure during his five month stay in the Intensive Care Unit of Kaiser in South San Francisco.Marvin was born at Kaiser in San Francisco to Luis and Rosa Castro on January 20, 1964. He spent his early years in San Francisco, moving to Belmont with his parents and younger brother Louis at age 12. Growing up, Marvin loved to read and showed exceptional musical talent, eventually learning how to play the piano, guitar and drums. He was also a fantastic artist, and enjoyed creating pencil drawings and sketches. Marvin made lifelong friends Rich and Keith throughout his school years. He graduated from Carlmont High School, where he and his friends started a band. Marvin met his friend Sean, who joined the Castro’s annual Super Bowl parties which fell around the time of Marvin’s birthday each year. He began working at his parent’s restaurant, Mi Tequila, after completing a culinary program in San Francisco. He met his wife Genoveva at Mi Tequila in 1988, whom he trained to work alongside him as a server. In 1989, they welcomed their first daughter, Stephanie. The three moved to San Mateo, welcoming the second addition to the Castro family, Daniella, in 1994.Marvin and Genoveva bought Mi Tequila in 1998 and had their third daughter, Juliana, the following year. Marvin and his family moved to Millbrae shortly after, which became their community for the next 17 years. In 2007, Marvin began working at Sofitel in Redwood City. He made many meaningful friendships at the hotel, some of whom would drop by Mi Tequila for dinner throughout the years. Marvin and Genoveva formed relationships with many patrons of Mi Tequila, making it a place where everyone who walked through the doors felt like family. The couple formed a particularly special bond with Genoveva’s sister, Edi, and her husband Carlos. The four of them worked at the restaurant together for years, and spent much of their free time together. Their families celebrated birthdays and holidays in each other’s homes, and often took trips together. Their fondest memories were those spent in Disneyland, and celebrating Christmas Eve at Marvin and Genoveva’s home each year.Marvin belonged to Saint Dunstan’s Parish in Millbrae, where he and Genoveva were remarried as recognized by the Catholic faith. They celebrated this milestone with their family and friends on his birthday in 2013. Marvin was a dedicated husband and father, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife and daughters. He was known to send silly texts and loved to share his favorite music, movies and television shows. He also enjoyed creating unique dishes and sharing the ingredients he used over family dinner. Marvin was more than a father figure to his daughters; he was one of their best friends. He and Genoveva raised their daughters to be resilient, curious, and kind. Even in his final days, Marvin continuously asked his daughters how they were doing, and looked forward to his wife’s visits every single day. Marvin will be truly missed by all who knew him.Marvin is survived by his loving wife Genoveva and their daughters Stephanie, Daniella, Juliana and their family dog Kita; his parents Luis and Rosa Castro; brother Louis Castro, sister-in-law Gabriela Castro, and their daughters Josie and Marissa; sister-in-law Edilia Villegas, her husband Carlos Villegas, and their children Alexis and Nicole; sister-in-law Luzma Vidal and her children Misty, Mandy and Genesis; cousins Lorraine, Vicky, Elizabeth (Mario and children), Karla (Ruben and children), Mark (Jennifer and children), Ivette (Simon and children); aunt Ana Gloria (Alfredo); and uncles Rodolfo (Martha) and Samuel (Conchi).A service will be held at 11 AM Thursday January 26, 2017 at Skylawn Memorial Park, Hwy 92 at Rte. 35, San Mateo.
