好伯伯 (my aunt) was my father's only younger sister. She left for the States to study when I was quite young.
I truly got to know her, my uncle and my cousins when I went to study in the States and spent the holidays with them.
As there were limited Chinese cooking ingredients in upstate NY in the 70's, her culinary skills were truly amazing. It was even more incredible that she managed to make 油條 (Chinese savory donuts)! Her thoughtfulness and care was much appreciated when she made my favorite Chinese pork floss and mailed it to my dorm. Each bite was treasured as it saved me from eating dorm food for a few days.
When we were together, we enjoyed chatting till the wee hours as we were both night owls.
好伯伯 will be dearly missed not only as a beloved and respected aunt, but as a confidant, advisor and soulmate.
If I ever make it to heaven, I hope we will have our reunion there. 🙏🙏
