Kei Fong Cheong's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Kei Fong Cheong (Ana Cheong) December 8, 1926 – April 26, 2025
“Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
With everlasting hope in Christ, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and faithful servant of the Lord, Kei Fong Cheong, affectionately known as Ana Cheong, who was called home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2025, in the Bay Area, California, at the age of 98 surrounded by her loving family.
Ana was born on December 8, 1926, in Semarang, Indonesia. In her youth, she traveled extensively with her father, a businessman, between Jakarta, Indonesia and Shanghai, China, which began a lifelong journey of exploration and cultural richness.
After her marriage to her husband Mr. Chan Si Wan, Ana made the most important decision of her life — accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She faithfully raised four daughters and one son, all of whom came to know and love the Lord through her powerful testimony, gentle spirit, and steadfast faith.
Ana’s life was marked by movement, resilience, and a love for the world and its people. She made her home in Indonesia, China, Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Canada, and finally settled down in the Bay Area, California. She was a gifted communicator, fluent in five different languages and dialects, and remarkably held driver’s licenses in five different countries — a testament to her adventurous heart and independent spirit. She loved to travel and embraced each journey with appreciation of God’s splendid handiwork, leaving her footprints and her faith across the globe. Yet no matter where she went, her home was always anchored in faith, family, and the Word of God.
Wherever she lived, Ana was deeply involved in the life of the church. She served faithfully in Gereja Kristus Tuhan Indonesia, Macau Alliance Church, Hong Kong North Point Alliance Church, Immanuel Christian Reformed Church Canada and eventually, Tri-City Chinese Baptist Church in Fremont, California, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, fellowship leader, church choir member, and worship song leader. With the gift of a warm welcoming soul, Ana is a quiet champion inviting more new visitors to worship God than anyone else. To multitude believers, she is the evangelist, first voice of welcome and the first glimpse of grace to many.
Ana has a deep love of sacred music, and her voice is tender and assuring, connecting divinely with those around her with grace, strength and the faithfulness of a joyful heart. One of her most cherished memories was participating in the first Chinese-language choral recital of the Handel’s Messiah, presided over by the late Dr. Richard Lin of the Chinese Christian Church Music Institute for Worship (CCCMIW).
She is survived by 7 children, 36 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren and other loved ones, who are grateful to walk in the spiritual footsteps and legacy she left behind.
A celebration of Ana’s life and her faithful service will be held at Tri-City Chinese Baptist Church on May 17, 2025, 2pm. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to join in honoring her life.
