J. Aleth Lagasca Guiriba's Obituary
J. Aleth “Al” Guiriba of Pacifica passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Aleth was born on December 17, 1947 in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to parents Eulogio and Ursula.He grew up in Quezon City and attended University of the Philippines High School where he was a star basketball player. He went on to receive a degree in Economics at the University of the Philippines.Aleth married wife, Yoly, in San Francisco in September 1980. Together they raised their two children, Alex and Camille.He worked as a sales executive in the pharmaceutical industry for more than thirty years.Aleth was also a man with many hobbies. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, reading, hiking, golf, and scuba diving. He gave back to the community for many years as a youth basketball coach and as a member of the Fil-Am Lions Club of San Francisco, serving as President from 2000-2001.He is survived by his wife; children; siblings Felix Guiriba, Ben Guiriba, Echel Hoffman, Mary Ann Guiriba, Paul Guiriba, and Caroline Almanzor; numerous nephews, nieces and godchildren; and his dog Polly.A viewing will be held Monday, May 19 from 5-8pm. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, May 20 at 11am. Both celebrations of his life will take place at Skylawn Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting monetary gifts to pay for the memorial services and will donate any remainder to the American Heart Association.
