I first met Nina four or five years ago when she and her family paid a surprise visit to Reno. I had heard from my dad, Philip, about Nina and her family for 30 years or so, and it was wonderful to be able to put a face to all the stories I had heard. My dad passed away three years ago. I know Nina missed him very much. Nina and Sung came to Reno in June of this year, and it was then that I really got to know Nina. My dad was a man who kept private thoughts to himself, not wanting to share anything sad or unhappy. In June I learned about the very close friendship Nina and my dad had and that he had confided in Nina many things. It was comforting to know that he had someone with whom he could share all his thoughts and feelings and that her friendship was there for him in happy times as well as sad times. Nina came to Reno not to gamble, but to check on me and see how I was doing since the death of my dad. She helped me in my garden and taught me many gardening skills. We took a walk one day and gathered seeds that had fallen so that I could plant them. And I was very fortunate to enjoy Nina’s spaghetti! In addition to her gardening talents, she was a great cook! When I think of Nina now, I will remember a sweet, kind, caring, giving woman, who was also very feisty!!! I will also remember what a doting nephew Sung was to his “Como.” The love between them was heartwarming to witness. My condolences to all of Nina’s family and friends. We were all lucky to have known such a wonderful woman!##imported-begin##Isolde Zihn##imported-end##
