Write your memory here…To Family and Friends of Guy Smith:I had the pleasure of knowing Guy and Donna for 30 years, right after they moved to Redwood Shores from Lynwood, in Southern California, where Guy had served as mayor. I first met guy when I was a reporter for the old San Mateo Times, back when they had real print journalism covering communities. I was assigned to Redwood City, and Guy was a member, and once chairman, of the Planning Commission.I went into public relations, and hooked up with Guy again in 1987, when he was then on the Port Commission. The Port retained me for public/community relations, and I developed a working relationship with Guy and other commissioners during many of the 21 years Guy served on the Port Commission.Guy was one of the kindest people anyone could ever meet. There are a lot of famous quotations about kindness that size up Guy. These include:ââ?¬Â¢ The little unremembered acts of kindness and love are the best parts of a person’s life.ââ?¬Â¢ No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves. Now anyone who knew Guy well, donââ?¬â?¢t those quotations describe the kind of man he was?A couple other famous people have notable quotes that describe Guy.Albert Einstein: Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.Albert Schweitzer: Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.Guy always loved what he was doing ââ?¬â?? his job with the phone company, his nearly 35 years of community service, including 21 with the Port of Redwood City, his time with Donna and their daughters, his lovable dogsââ?¬Â¦. Guy loved life, and lived it well ââ?¬â?? and he gave us an example of itââ?¬â?¢s okay to be a nice guy!Weââ?¬â?¢ll miss you.Duane Sandul (and my wife Patricia and son Glenn)##imported-begin##Duane Sandul##imported-end##
