Gloria Overstreet's Obituary
Gloria Overstreet, aged 83, of South San Francisco died with her children at her side on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 of natural causes. She was born February 17, 1927 in San Francisco, California, to Fred and Adele Lewis. She attended Polytechnic High School Fall Class of 1944 and the City College of San Francisco. In High School she was a member of the California Scholarship Federation, Block "P" Society, Drama Club, Student Congress, Student Body War Activities Chairwoman, Senior Diploma Committee and on the Honor Roll. She was awarded the San Francisco Daughters of the American Revolution "Good Citizenship Award" in 1945. She attended City College of San Francisco and later was a teacher at Yreka Elementary School 1947-1948. On July 1, 1949 she was married to Billy Overstreet. Gloria loved her family and was deeply affected by the loss of her father during WWII. Loosing her father during her teen years is perhaps why she cherished her children and relatives so dearly. She loved to tell stories of our family and could remember many stories handed down from her elder relatives. She enjoyed country drives on weekends and we had wonderful vacations to Forest Pool at Boulder Creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains. She was an active crafter in many mediums especially in making costumes for her children, grandchildren and dolls. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She loved to entertain and decorate for the holidays. Gloria also loved her many dogs she had the pleasure of caring for over the years. She has now passed on and we shall always hold dear the nurturing love bestowed upon us by this wonderful woman, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Gloria is survived by her sister Joyce and children Gary, Victoria, Eric, Annette and her grandchildren, Kyle, Gabriela and Sofia. A Memorial Gathering officiated by Chaplain Sam Ortega and then a scattering of cremation remains will be held Friday January 7, 2010 12:30pm at Friday, Portola Room at the Lifemark Center, Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Boulevard. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers: Mission Hospice & Home Care 650-554-1000 Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA 650-340-7022 ext. 327
