Essie D. Lacy's Obituary
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)Essie D Harris Lacy was born on March 18, 1931 in Corsicana, Texas to Annie and Jessie Harris. Essie was the seventh of eight children. She departed life on July 5, 2015 at home in San Francisco, California.Essie graduated from Jackson High School in Corsicana, Texas where she sang in the Gospel Choir. She married Booker T. Lacy in 1948. They moved to San Francisco with their daughter Barbara where four more children were born. Booker T. and Barbara Ann both preceded her in death.She received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Mission Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas. Essie was committed to God and read her bible faithfully everyday. When she moved to California she joined Second Union Missionary Baptist Church and served in several departments such as the Adult Choir (she had a compassion for singing God’s word), Nurses Guild, Ushers Board, Mothers Board until her health slowed her down. She remained a member until her death.Essie D. aka Lacy worked and retired from Kaiser Permanente Hospital on Geary Blvd. in San Francisco for over 26 years in the Maternity Ward as an LVN Nurse. She loved working with babies sharing her comfort and knowledge of motherhood to new mothers. She continued to spread her nurturing spirit as a foster mother.Essie D. was known for her Sunday dinners that fed the neighborhood. She had a personality to warm a room, and a sense of humor to always put a smile on your face. Essie D. is leaving behind her four children, Larry (Harrilyn), Maychell, Zipporiah, and Brenda (Sidney), her two grandchildren, known as “G-mama”to Daneka, and RaShayla, and three great grandchildren who she was affectionately called “GG-mama” by Jai’la, Jace, and Omni, nieces and nephews in California and Texas; and a host of extended family and friends.The family would like to extend their love to those who cared for our Mother.
