I met Donna and her family in Stockton in 1971. She and her sister, Mei, were the most beautiful sisters I’d ever known. Donna was kind, caring and easy going. We were all studying at UC Davis in 1973. After I left Davis, I attended their wedding in 1975. Then I came across her and her 13-year old son was at an open house in Foster City. The last time I saw her was at a mutual friend’s wedding in San Francisco more than 20 years ago. I’d never thought that was the last time we met. Life is not fair, two nicest sisters passed away young. I’ll miss them, especially Donna. RIP…

I am Andy’s high school buddy soI met Donna half a century ago at their home in Hong Kong.Ã?Â But I really knew Donna the last two years through a couple of things we were in common. We both are beginners of the Mahjong games and got hooked to the game. We both are cancer survivors and supporting each other diligently. Looking back at all the emails we exchanged, it reminded me on how much fun and passion we had from the Mahjong gathering. Donna won or got even most of the times but she enjoyed the games no matter she won or lost. Donna was always positive towards life and fighting cancer. She always was happy to share her treatments, feelings and thoughts in detail which inspired me to fight my own battle. Last year I encouraged Donna to do some walking. She didn’t say she would do it. One morning in mid August, when I was barely awake, I saw an email from Donna, saying “I am walking on the levee, hope you are on your way too”The next few days, I got similar messages. “I am on my trail, you better get on your feet”. That was one example of how Donna and I supported each other closely. We also shared healthy diets, new treatments, doctors’ reports and exchanged jokes which is good to suppress cancers!!Now Donna left us and went to another world! I will miss her emails reminding me to walk! We will miss her company at the Mahjong table!But her smiles and her cheerful personality will stay in our mind forever!##imported-begin##YP Pang##imported-end##

I remember Donna and I would laugh, giggle, or just holding each other hands, especially when crossing the street…just to take care of each other.Occasionally after work, Donna would meet me for dinner. I remember once we were at this restaurant from 7:00pm until their closing time 9:30pm…we ate, we talked, we ate some more, and we talked some more to the point the waiters didn’t even bother to come over to our table. The time went by so fast when we were enjoying each other company so much. I remember many people (strangers) would mistaken us as “sisters”…we even tried once in awhile to wear the same colors just to have some fun. I felt blessed that I was able to spend one quiet afternoon with Donna before her passing…we just held each other hands, reminisced the past.. all the silly things that we did…we laughed, we cried, and we shared a “special moment” with each other in that particular afternoon. Before I left she gave me a charm bracelet to remember her by…thank you Donna…I will forever treasure her love, her courage, her kindness, her sweetness, her silly laughs, her loyalty, and her devotion to our many years of friendship. Donna will be missed by many of us. She was a woman with great dignity. She was courageous in facing her illness and I admire her for that. I remember Donna from the MJ parties that we’ve had over the last couple of years. Although I’ve known Donna only for a little while, I will always remember the infectious smile she had, winning or losing any hand, but in her case, mostly winning. And those peanuts she roasted! So tasty, outta this world. I remember one party at her house; she had about 20 different appetizers and dishes that she and Dave prepared for the party. There was so much delicious food and then after going out to dinner, several of us were so stuffed we actually walked back to their house – which if you know our group – is unheard of.Donna, your kindness, from taking in Karen for a day at work, to your smiling graciousness whenever I’ve seen you, will be remembered forever.##imported-begin##Cliff Marks##imported-end##
