Daniel Yong Dam Dokko's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beloved Daniel Yong Dam Dokko, who peacefully left us at the age of 78.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Daniel married his wonderful wife in the 1970s before immigrating to the United States. He made his home in San Jose and later in San Francisco, where he raised his daughter and three sons. Daniel will always be remembered as a caring husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather.
He worked tirelessly as a dry cleaner for many years to provide for his family. Daniel had an incredible work ethic and inspired his children to chase the educational opportunities he didn’t have. He was so proud of his children and grandson and cheered them every step of the way, especially as they pursued higher education.
Spending time with his family and their lovable dog, Munchie, brought him the greatest joy, whether they were at home or on vacation. He loved sharing stories from his childhood and reminiscing about family gatherings. Daniel had a special passion for history, particularly when sharing his family’s genealogy. Daniel always radiated with warmth and humor. Even in his declining health, he maintained his sense of humor, leaving us with laughter and countless smiles.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kyungwon; his daughter, Sonny (Michael); his sons, James, Samuel (Jessica), and David; and his grandson, Andy. He is also survived by his brothers, Yong Ha and Yong Nam, along with many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Chun Su, and his brother Yong Sik.
