Obituary of Candida Miranda1934 – 2012 Candida Miranda of Redwood City, surrounded by family passed away peacefully at her home the morning of June 19, 2012 after battling a long illness. She was 77 years old.Candy, as she was affectionately called, was born September 19th, 1934 in Cuba to Fernando and Eulalia. She attended elementary and high school before marrying the love of her life, Jorge Miranda on July 26th 1952 in his hometown. She was 15. Jorge and Candy along with their four children made the challenging decision to immigrate to the United States; their dream became a reality in January 1969. Once in the United States they were able to purchase the first family car in 1970 and in 1974 they purchased their first and only home. After the death of her husband in 1981, she decided to go back to school and began attending Canada College in Redwood City where she completed a Business Management program and graduated in 1988 with an AA degree and Business Management Certificate. Candy always had a passion for serving God and people leading her to complete a Biblical Theology program at Faith Bible College where she graduated in 1992. She was presented the opportunity to serve the Salvation Army's Spanish Ministry where she held the title of Major Sergeant for 2 years. Candy's other service areas include six plus years as the President of the Women's Ministry at Templo La Luz, Assemblies of God Church in Redwood City. She was also the President of the Young Women's Ministries and sang in the church choir. She was a church member at Templo La Luz for over 30 years. Candy had a passion for helping battered children and became a volunteer for Child Advocacy of San Mateo County.Candy loved to camp with her family. The majority of the family took many camping trips together as the children grew, married, and had children of their own. Those meaningful trips were full of cooking, swimming, boating and long nights by the bonfire laughing, singing and playing games. Candy also enjoyed road trips and baseball. It was at one of those baseball games in Cuba where she met and immediately fell in love with her husband Jorge. Candy retired from Stanford University Hospital where she worked for 25 years as the Supervisor of Material Management. In 1991 Candy's superb leadership abilities earned her the Manager of the Year award.Survived by daughters, Aleida Dominguez (and her husband, Raymond) Alicia Keirns, (and her husband, David) Tina Slagle (and her husband Rick) son, George Miranda, (and wife Farro), eleven grandchildren, Ray Diaz, Marlon Diaz, Christopher Mas, Joshua Mas, Melissa Daffron, Nathan Miranda, Tim Miranda, Andy Miranda, Ryan Slagle, Jamie Riedell, Aaron Slagle, and eleven great-grandchildren, Gabriel Diaz, Mateo Diaz, Kristina Mas, Noah Mas, Isabella Mas, Eva Mas, Gianna Mas, Natalia Mas, Jordan Daffron and Landon Daffron. Good friend Olivia Macias who has been her constant friend and companion for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and beloved husband Jorge Miranda. Funeral Services to be held on Thursday, June 28th at 7PM, at Woodside Road United Methodist Church, 2000 Woodside Rd, Redwood City. A short chapel service will be held on Friday, June 29th at 10:30 a.m. followed by the interment and a lunch reception: all at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 and Skyline Blvd, San Mateo.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her beloved areas of ministry.
