Dr. Beverly Elaine Thomas' Obituary
Beverly Thomas was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of two brothers and one sister. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 1961. Beverly was one of six graduating women in her class of 100. She was determined to succeed even though she was told in grade school and college that she couldn’t do it.After serving her residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, Dr. Beverly Thomas opened her solo practice in Pacifica as a family practitioner in 1962. Eight years later, she moved her office to Burlingame. Dr. Thomas was a remarkably intelligent physician for 50 years. She maintained her professional relationship with local hospitals in order to personally service her admitted patients and assist in surgeries. Locally, Beverly was one of the few remaining clinicians to do house calls. She deeply cared and intimately listened to all of her patients’ medical and personal concerns. Dr. Thomas’ schedule was pliable and would flex based on patients’ needs. Her priority was to attend to the details with passion and love. Therefore, waiting for their doctor was worth their time because patients knew, when it was their turn, their time with Dr. Thomas was priceless.People who knew Beverly personally experienced a woman who gained everyone’s trust through her nonjudgmental demeanor and amazing listening skills. She saw the good in people and gave them the benefit of the doubt. She was able to relate to people of all ages. Even teenagers felt safe to confide in her and look to her as a mentor and guide. Beverly ran her home, which was a haven to many, with an open heart and an open door. Focused on both family and work, she was always the first one up in the morning and the last one home at night. She effortlessly expressed her love with genuine care. Her ability to convey brutal truths was always enveloped with tenderness. You always knew where you stood with Beverly.Although she had a strong work ethic, she always made her children top priority. Beverly’s smile illuminated at the site of her sons, daughter, and grandchildren. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother with an unbridled capacity for love and understanding.Animals played a large role in her family life. Beverly loved the outdoors, especially walking her beloved pet dogs. She led an active life. Riding ATVs at Pismo Beach was a favorite, swift walks on the shore followed by a family dinner made an ideal vacation. She travelled the world noting Jerusalem as a life altering experience.The family would like to thank Beverly’s amazing caregivers, who attended to her every need at the end of her life in the comfort of her own home. This consistent support uplifted her quality of life and gave everyone peace of mind. She died of natural causes at the age of 83.She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Traxler. She is also survived by daughter: Donna and husband Chris DeAnda, grandchildren: Danielle, Heather, Hunter and Colton. Son: Terry and wife, Michelle Traxler, grandchildren: Brittany, Brooklyn, Robert, Akela, Chelsea and Julianne. Son: Tim and wife Julianne Traxler. Son: Josh and wife Sadana Traxler, grandchildren: Donovan and Miles.
