It has been said that as we approach the later years of life, if we can count five (5) good friends on one hand we are truly blessed. Beverly Thomas was one of my five. I knew Beverly over 45-years; first, as my physician (Dr. Thomas), then as my dear, true friend. I use to say, “What have I done in my life to deserve such a friend, as Beverly.” As my doctor, there was none better. I may have waited a long time in the Waiting Room or even be the last patient; but I didn’t mind, because I knew she would give me her complete and utmost attention. She always did. She was an excellent doctor. She was caring, kind, and took time to listen. Even after we moved from California to Florida, I would call her and she would help. If any of us became ill, my little daughter would say, “Call Beverly, mommy, she will know what to do.” As her friend, we shared many stories, life experiences, heartbreak and joy. She and Richard even attended our wedding in Guatemala…, taking a week out of their lives to celebrate with us. Later, when my daughter married 10-years ago, Beverly came, with Donna, to Florida to celebrate with us. She was an amazing friend! When I was able to come back to visit and stay at the house, I felt so at home. She made me feel a part of the family. I had the opportunity to work with her and Richard, only to see all the good they did for the people and their community. I would tell them, “God is so good to the two of you because of all the good you do for so many others.” She had a good, kind, caring and loving heart. She loved her family…, first and foremost; loved her patients; loved her home, and never hesitated to help anyone. She will always be my true friend. I loved her. I will miss her. But I know, without a doubt, when she approached St. Peter, the gates of Heaven flung open-wide. And, she was greeted by the Father saying, “Welcome home! My true and trusted friend. Thank you for a job well done!” “A life well lead.” “A legacy to be proud of.” Rest in peace, dear Beverly.
