Abbas Nikravesh's Obituary
Abbas Nikravesh passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 91 years young - and young he truly was. Throughout his life, Abbas possessed a tireless spirit and an unwavering passion for living. More than anything, he cherished the company of family and friends, delighting in laughter, jokes, music, poetry, and song. He was a loving and
generous soul who felt deeply and gave freely.
Born May 15, 1934, in Tuyserkan, Iran, Abbas was an adventurous child with big dreams. As a teenager, he became captivated by the promise of the United States, and in 1957, he set out to pursue his American dream in New York. Arriving at the local YMCA with little more than a suitcase, blanket, and a determination to succeed, Abbas soon enrolled at the State University of New York at Farmingdale, where he studied electrical engineering and formed lifelong friendships.
After graduation, Abbas and one of his close friends embarked on a cross-country road trip. It was at the end of their journey, as they crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, that Abbas decided his future belonged out West: San Francisco, the City by the Bay, would be his home. He worked as a waiter at various restaurants before landing a position at the American Can Company. A few years later, he began a long and fulfilling career as an engineer at Pacific Gas & Electric Co., where he remained for 43 years –with a brief interlude at the National Steel Company in Tehran – until his
retirement in 2007. And while he found plenty of professional success in business along the way, it was his achievements as husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend that he valued most.
Abbas is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ashraf; his children and their spouses, Babak and Glenda of San Mateo and Bita and Matt of Sacramento; and his adoring grandchildren Gemma, Jordan, Emilia, and Rumi. He is also survived by a sister, brother, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
