Yu Lin Yuan's Obituary
Yuan, Yu-Lin, aged 91, of Milpitas, CA died at home in Milpitas on 6/20/15 at 00:45AM. He was born 1/29/1924 in Shanghai, China. He had formal education till 8th grade and self-taught from that point on. He was a businessman mostly dealing in curtain and other textile material for over 40 years. He was born into an age of turbulence and war. Japanese invasion of China started when he was only 13, forcing him out of school and into working as an apprentice under Japanese trading company. For 8 years he endured and disciplined himself to be an asset to the Japanese managers. His linguistic talent allowed him to communicate in Japanese and artistic senses helped in textile business. After the war, he enjoyed a brief period in Shanghai and then the communists chased freedom lovers out of the country and he came to Taiwan with the retreating KuoMingTang forces. In Taiwan, he stayed close to family friend Kuei-Ching and helped her in every way possible. Eventually, they agreed to form a family and the rest is history. They met in Shanghai as teenagers and finally were together in their 30s so been together for over 60 years. They enjoyed Chinese opera singing and karaoke singing together. Before arriving in California, he spent several years in Seoul, Korea, just to keep company for Kuei-Ching. They also had chance to travel to Europe and enjoyed several cruises together. In 1987, after almost 40 years of lost communications, he welcomed 6 of his closest siblings & relatives from China to California, which was a big highlight in his life.
