Yoshiko Takenaka's Obituary
Yoshiko Takenaka, 79, of Hayward, CA, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at Sakura Gardens senior care home in San Mateo, CA. Although Yoshiko had seemingly overcome her battle with cancer a decade ago, her symptoms had returned.
Yoshiko was born August 7, 1943 to Itaru and Mikie Nagatsuyu in Tule Lake internment camp in California.
After the war, our family returned to Fukuoka, Japan where she lived her childhood years. In 1961, our family moved to San Mateo, CA.
Yoshiko graduated from Burlingame High School. She married Masayoshi Takenaka in 1965, but later divorced. They had two children and moved around the San Francisco Bay Area until settling in Hayward, CA.
For many years, Yoshiko worked as a waitress at Kinokawa restaurant in San Francisco, but later worked for the Oaks Card Club for over twenty years as a cashier.
Yoshiko enjoyed traveling to Japan, playing mahjong, ping pong and spending time with family. She was a very caring person. We will miss her warm smile and her cheerful presence.
Yoshiko is predeceased by her parents, Itaru and Mikie Nagatsuyu, her brothers, Kazuo, Kaname, and Masami Nagatsuyu. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Naomi Takenaka, son, Brian Kengo Takenaka, sisters, Toshiko Omi and Michiko Sumi, and three grandchildren, Kyle Barber, Joe and Jessica Takenaka.
A private burial service will be arranged by the Skylawn Memorial Park.
