I saw white dots of my brothers’ fishing rafts weaving with the mighty tide. At dawn, I saw the raft ashore and a pot above the burning fire was ready for the Mullets caught. In the deep silent of night, I saw the wave of sugar canes swaying. I saw my youth covered under layers of clothes, Under the red hot sun, Sweating, cutting the sugar plants. In the spring of my 20th, A red carriage brought me to my love With the drum, trumpets, dowry and all. In the deep silent of night, I saw my kids running wild with laughter, I saw oxen’s carts loaded with perfumed herbs, I saw merchants, venders, workers, in and out of the house that my husband built. In the deep silent of night, I saw my children sing and dance for me, My grand-children hugged me tight, My great grand-children smacked my face wet with joy and delight. In the deep silent of night, I saw ocean blue of Pacific Under the misty cloud of Gold Mountain high Oh, how I longed for the other side of ocean wide Where my sweet memory floats, And my parents lay. In the deep silent of night, I heard, faintly, the whistling of wind, Come home my sweet child, come home my sweet child.
