William J. Morey Jr.'s Obituary
William J. Morey, Jr. October 19, 1940 – April 10, 2015Bill Morey, 74, of San Carlos, CA, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born in San Francisco and moved to San Carlos in 1947. He attended St. Charles Catholic School, Serra High School and graduated from Carlmont High School where he played varsity baseball. Morey was drafted into the Army in 1966. He became part of the Infantry known as The Big Red One and served in Vietnam. He returned home in 1968. After his return, Morey purchased his first thoroughbred race horse, Crimson Flag. He went on to train horses for more than 40 years – including 2, million dollar earners, Dixie Dot Com and Bold Chieftain. Throughout his career, Morey produced a winner of a stakes race at every track in California. In 2014, Morey’s training record and service in the horse racing industry earned him a place in the CTBA Hall of Fame. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris Morey and his 2 children, Kelley Green (Mark) and Billy Morey (Elizabeth), 2 grandsons, Tyler and Jared Green and his two younger sisters, Dianne Hayes and Carolynn Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The Parkinson’s Institute, 675 Almanor Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085 Service will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Hwy 92 at Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA on Friday, April 17th at 11am.
