William Douglas George's Obituary
William (Bill) George, 77, of Fremont, California, passed away on June 26, 2024, after a lengthy and tenacious battle with illness.
Bill was born in 1947 to Jean and Earle George in Bay Shore, New York. At an early age, he moved with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where, as the oldest of four siblings, he developed a profound love for the outdoors and geology. Additionally, Bill’s father instilled in him a deep passion for archaeology and history, which he passed on to both of his sons, as well as to many young people whom he mentored as a father figure.
As a young adult, inspired by his childhood best friend, Bill relocated to California, where his affection for the outdoors expanded to encompass the Pacific Ocean and the California Redwoods—two places where he found solace and contentment.
Bill eventually settled in the Bay Area, where he met his wife. Together, they raised two beloved sons who were the source of his greatest pride. Bill was a lifelong learner and an enthusiastic student of both Eastern and Western religions. He loved to read and share books and could talk for hours about his interests. His home was always filled with the sounds of his favorite music, a testament to his enduring passion and artistic side.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy, children Michael and Jacob, two sisters, one brother, five nieces and three nephews whom he loved dearly, many grand nieces and nephews whom he considered as grandchildren, and two soon to be step-grandchildren.
Services for Bill will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Skyline Blvd. at Highway 92 in San Mateo. Donations in Bill’s name can be made to Donate to the Union City Family Center Foundation or to the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
