William H. Agens' Obituary
Bill was born on December 27, 1935 in Benton Harbor Michigan to Florence and Hugh Edward Agens, where he was the third of four rambunctious boys to bless the family. The family moved to the Bay Area in the early 40's, where as a youth, Bill participated in many school sports and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 29. After attending Jefferson High, Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1954. Bill was briefly stationed in the Phillipines, Hawaii, Nevada, and Japan where he boarded a ship for the Korean War. While stationed in Hawaii, he obtained a GED and proudly accepted a High School Diploma from Jefferson High. At the conclusion of the Korean War, Bill was selected and completed a special training program in Quantico as a Military Security Guard. One of his first assignments was as special duty to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1959, while stationed in Bangkok as an Embassy Security Guard, he fell head over heels for his wife of over 50 years Celia. They married in 1960 while still in Bangkok. In January of 1962, Bill and Celia moved stateside to Camp Pendleton for Bill's last tour of duty and in July of that year celebrated the birth of their firstborn Lynda. On the day of Bills discharge and with the family's bags packed and ready to move, all Marines were extended for the Cuban Missile Crisis. At the conclusion of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and after proudly serving more than 20 years in the Marine Corps, Bill was honorably discharged. The young family relocated to Bill's childhood home of Pacifica where they were near his mother, and in 1965, the family of three became four as they welcomed the birth of their second child Thomas. While helping to raise his young children, Bill began studying computer programming at CSM and Heald Business colleges. Upon graduation from Heald and with various on the job training, Bill landed a job as a System Analyst at National Can where he made many very close friends during his tenure there. Semi-retirement found him enjoying years as a floor manager at the local OSH.While Lynda and Tom were growing up, Bill was heavily involved in their school activities and held leadership roles in their Girl and Boy Scout troops. Throughout the years, and beginning as a young family, summer vacations were spent camping and traveling throughout the parks of the West. Bill and Celia's love for adventure and the outdoors continued as they retired and became empty nesters. It then became their Golden Retriever Ginger's job to keep them in line as they camped and toured the National parks of the West in their fifth wheel.Bills support of the San Francisco 49ers and Giants cannot be topped and he will continue to route on the Niners as they become the next Super Bowl Champs!
