Whon-Il Park
Whon-jang “Francisco” Park spent his adolescent period in the 1950s and 1960s when all the Korean people experienced hard times. Quite naturally, he acquired and demonstrated the ‘Sprit of Pioneer’ throughout his life.
First, in 1967, Francisco Park voluntarily participated in the Vietnam War, where he earned valuable US dollars as a combat soldier to send to his mother. When he returned home in safety, he gave another joyful gift to his family members – exotic foreign goods including Canon camera, portable Hi-Fi record player, various canned food, C-ration boxes, and so on.
Second, in the 1970s when he worked for KOTRA, he lived for many years at its overseas offices such as Sydney and New Delhi. He stimulated his brothers and sisters in Korea who wished to experience exotic landscape and lifestyle so that they may live and study abroad.
Third, in the early stage of immigration of Koreans, he moved to the United States in pursuit of an American dream. Even though he had to overcome some difficult times, he provided his two children with a challenging opportunity of advanced education. As a result, his son and daughter have successfully moved into the mainstream of the American society as a lawyer of a big law firm in San Diego and a clinical psychologist with Ph.D. degree in Silicon Valley, respectively.
