WenQi Tan's Obituary
Wenqi Tan passed away at age 85, on May 20th, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Wenqi, son of Xinjin Tan and Wenji Liu, was born in Hunan, China on June 11th, 1936. He was the youngest of four brothers and attended Hunan University where he later became a professor for 35 years. He was respected and loved by his friends, colleagues, and students.
Wenqi had a gentle, kind, and caring personality with a playful sense of humor. He served in the Chinese Air Force and obtained his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering during uncertain times. He valued education and was always learning new things. Upon arriving to the United States, he even kept a notebook that he was constantly updating with new words or phrases that he had learned. This is a value that he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Wenqi will forever be loved and cherished by his wife, Donge Zhang, and his two daughters: Li Qiong Tan and Lifei Tan. Next year would have marked 60 beautiful years with his wife. Their marriage was the embodiment of love, commitment, and partnership. He never missed an opportunity to make the people around him feel loved and supported. He was a caring father to his daughters, a talented storyteller to his grandchildren, and an esteemed mentor to his students. He will be forever remembered and missed dearly by his family and friends.
