Waltraud H. Bauer's Obituary
Waltraud Bauer, aged 90, died on Wednesday August 3rd, in her home, surrounded by the love of her family and favorite felines. She was born on September 25th, 1925 in Germany to Frieda and Arthur Krenz, and came to America in 1957. Once there, she made her way to San Francisco (a city that spoke to her big city girl heart) where she met Kurt Bauer, whom she married on July 18, 1960. They were happily married for 56 years. After several cross country job related moves, she and Kurt finally settled in Santa Rosa, in their beautiful home, nestled in the canopy of California oak trees she so dearly loved. Waltraud’s greatest passions (just to name a few) included the history and evolution of human kind, the origin of religions and keeping current with world events and politics. Like her father, she was deeply interested in the evolution and exploration of the cosmos and followed with great interest the International Space Station and its crew.Throughout her long life, Waltraud accumulated and created an impressive library of over 3,500 volumes (for which her husband faithfully built and installed many book shelves throughout the house). She was a great researcher, historian and teacher at heart. Her tenacious interest in learning, education and people’s origins, plus her innate generosity, knew no bounds and was eagerly shared with her family, friends and all whom she met. To say we will miss her is an understatement.Waltraud is survived by her husband Kurt, her daughters Karin and Andrea Bauer, her son-in-law Frank Borkam, her four legged babies Ziggy and Rudi, and a wide assortment of wildlife that all found nourishment, love and support under her protective wing and watchful eye.A memorial service will be held for Waltraud on Wednesday, August 10th at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, San Mateo CA. Guests may arrive at 10:30am with service to begin at 10:45am. This will be followed by a brief interment (where she’ll join her mother and Uncle Eddi) and reception at Skylawn. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite animal charity.
