Virginia "Susie" Opperman's Obituary
Virginia Opperman, 70, of San Mateo died at Kaiser Hospital in South San Francisco on January 2, 2015.She was born on August 28, 1944 in Napa, CA, to William (Homer) & Jane Opperman. She graduated from Napa High School in 1962 and continued her education at San Francisco State College receiving her teaching credential. She later returned to college earning a Masters Degree in Special Education and Administration credentials. She worked her entire career for Jefferson School District in Daly City retiring in 2001 as the Director of Special Education.During her life, she did volunteer work for many organizations including Mills Peninsula Health Services’ Healing Store and Broadway by the Bay. She greatly enjoyed traveling, studying genealogy, and her mall walking group.She is survived by her sister Rosanne Ollice of Napa and three nephews, Brian Bettencourt of Atascadero, Michael Bettencourt of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Matthew Opperman of Walnut Creek. She is also survived by 2 grand-nephews, Benjamin & Charlie Opperman. She was predeceased by her brother, Larry Opperman of Penn Valley.Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Life which will be held at 11 o’clock on January 20, 2015, at Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo.In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to the Easter Seals Society, your favorite Humane Society, or charity of the donor’s choice.Virginia “Susie’s” ashes will be buried Monday, February 2, 2015 at 9:00am at Tulocay Cemetary, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, California. The grave is #40D on Cedar Drive.She will be placed in with Rosanne Bettencourt’s children’s father, John Bettencourt.
