Victor Wong's Obituary
Since the days when his dad took him as a little boy to San Francisco’s Muni Pier, Victor Wong was hooked on fishing and it became a lifelong passion that he shared with his many fishing buddies. Over the years, he meticulously built his own fishing gear and woke up early to catch bait and scope out the best fishing spots. Victor enjoyed the challenge of trying to out-smart the fish and waited patiently for the next tug on his line. He reveled in the day’s catch and once single-handedly reeled in a 31-pound striped bass.Victor’s affinity for fishing was only second to his deep love of the “catch of his life” – his wonderful wife Carol and their daughters 13-year-old Terilyn and 11-year-old Karlie, their sweet dog Cody who was Victor’s sofa buddy, and their army of family and friends. The couple lovingly raised their girls helping them with homework, teaching them how to cook, cheering them on at their events, and taking them on special vacations, including one to the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii last year. Victor was incredibly proud of Terilyn and Karlie and would often text photos of their latest accomplishments to family and friends. He was always the life of the party, telling hilarious jokes and doing spot-on impressions that often left everyone in stitches. He also excelled at cooking, creating fabulous family-style dishes and expertly carving meats at large gatherings. Victor had the biggest heart and made sure that everyone felt included and was well-fed and happy. He was a great listener, too, and calmly guided family and friends through tough times. He was born in San Francisco’s Chinese Hospital on October, 21, 1965, the fourth and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Jook Lim Wong, who passed before him. Immigrants from Canton, China, Victor’s parents ran Irving Cleaners and Laundry in San Francisco’s Sunset district, and this is where the siblings Willie, Marian, Maxine and Victor grew up. Even as a little kid, Victor had a big personality as he wore his cowboy hat and sheriff ‘s badge and road his red tricycle around while greeting customers and neighbors. He attended Lowell High School and San Francisco City College, where he received a degree in aeronautics and later worked for United Airlines. Since 2005, Victor worked as an installer at SFMTA – Traffic Sign Shops. He was also active in his community and was a past president of the Merimont Homeowners Association. On June 10, Victor passed away unexpectedly while fishing on Ocean Beach in San Francisco. He was only 51 years old and taken from us way too soon. However, we can find solace in knowing that he is now is in a place where his amazing spirit can be totally free, where he can enjoy dim sum daily with his parents, and where he can fish 24/7 while being his family’s personal guardian angel. Our hearts are broken by this devastating loss, but we hope to heal by honoring and celebrating Victor’s life and the numerous lives he touched. We remember him as a devoted husband, a doting father, a fun-loving uncle, and a loyal friend to all. We also look forward to being part of a village that helps Carol raise Terilyn and Karlie in their dad’s loving memory. Now that our dear, sweet Victor has “gone fishing” in heaven, may he rest in eternal peace and may our special memories of him keep his spirit alive forever in our hearts.Visitation and Viewing will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park, 100 Lifemark Road (right off Hwy 92 and Skyline Blvd.), San Mateo, on Thursday, June 22, 2017, with the following schedule: 10:00 – 11:00 am – Immediate Family, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm – Family and Friends, 2:00 pm – Procession to Crematorium and Final Goodbyes.A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held to honor Victor on Saturday – June 24, 2017 at Elks Lodge at Emerald Hills 938 Wilmington Way, Redwood City, CA Lodge #1991 with the following schedule 11:00 am – 12:15: pm Eulogy and Services, 12:15 Light Lunch and Open Mic, 3:30pm Conclusion.
