Tyler Allen Breite's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tyler Breite. Born on March 3, 2004, he left us too soon on August 8, 2023. Tyler was a remarkable individual with unwavering curiosity, whose life was a testament to the pursuit of peace and knowledge.
Tyler is survived by his many loving family members and friends, including his parents, Alesha and Matthew Breite, his brother, Jayden Breite, his grandparents, William and Eleanor Breite and Cynthia and Charles (“David”) Morgan, and his aunts and uncles, Todd and Amanda Morgan and Briana and Peter Rosenbaum.
Tyler grew up in Belmont, California. He was a graduate of Serra High School and was going to be a Sophomore at University of California, Berkeley. He intended to pursue an education in theoretical physics, with potential focuses on environmentally friendly energy production and sustainable flying car solutions.
Tyler’s own words illuminate his unwavering and long-standing dedication to making this world a better place through understanding and progress. As he recently articulated in one of his college admissions essays, Tyler felt his purpose in life was “the pursuit of knowledge.” “As we accumulate more and more [knowledge,]” he explained, “new discoveries lead to remarkable inventions that net positive results for humanity. In other words,” Tyler declared, “knowledge improves people’s lives.”
From a young age, Tyler exhibited an almost insatiable quest to uncover the truths of the world, leading him to question everything from the meaning of time to the existence of God. He was never afraid to ask hard questions and challenge even well-established ideas. He loved to tutor his brother and friends in math and took true joy in solving complex math problems for hours on end. He was an avid reader of historical fiction, philosophy, and political theory.
Tyler took solace and inspiration from music, and particularly enjoyed hunting down and listening to rare vinyl records with his brother. He loved to make Japanese curry—from scratch, of course—and looked forward to car rides with his family to uncover new ice cream shops, engage in complex conversations, and listen to every genre from Metallica to Sinatra.
Tyler was also a passionate advocate for social change. He was active with several service-oriented organizations, including the Young Men Service League and Food Not Bombs, and participated in a wide range of service projects, including serving meals to the homeless and less fortunate. He wished to study theoretical physics because he believed the application of science to global challenges would make the world a better place. And he examined theoretical philosophy and political structures to uncover tools to understand and strengthen the connections between all of us.
Tyler’s enthusiasm in the pursuit of knowledge and positive change left an indelible impact on his friends and family. He constantly challenged others to question their own assumptions, leading to a more global quest for truth. Tyler was also an incredibly kind and warm-hearted person, who invested so much of himself in every one of his personal relationships and beyond, as he truly cared about each individual soul on this planet.
As we remember Tyler, his family asks each and every person to renew their commitment to creating a better world for all.
Rest in peace dear Tyler. Although your light might have been extinguished far too early, it will shine through all of us. We will take up your torch and light the path to justice and truth in your name.
