Thomas "Tom" Pian's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Thomas Pian, aged 64 of Pittsford, NY, passed away in Burlingame, CA on October 12 of natural causes.He was born on February 24, 1953, in Michigan to Richard Pian and Mabel Pian. He attained his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in Materials Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On July 14, 1990, he married Ping Pian in Rochester, NY.Growing up in Tempe, AZ, Thomas discovered his love for traveling and academics through touring the state, country, and world with his family. As a pastime, he drove around Arizona with his father to enter speech competitions and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during high school. Following his studies, Thomas moved to Rochester, NY where he worked at the Eastman Kodak Company for over 25 years. His most recent adventure has been working in the Bay Area for the past three years, where he had the chance to travel multiple times to Asia, visit family and friends, and enjoy the sights of California, particularly the runway of SFO airport.Thomas is survived by his wife Ping, daughters Brooke and Kelsey, sister Lanna Pian, and brothers Robert Pian and Donald Pian.A service will be held on October 27, 2017 at Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo, CA. Public viewing is from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for extended family and friends. The memorial service will take place from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., and a reception will follow from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join us as we remember and celebrate his life.
