Thomas Michael O’Rourke, 75 Thomas “Tom” Michael O’Rourke, 75, of San Mateo California, peacefully passed away on Tuesday February 2, 2016 after a long battle with prostate cancer. A celebration of life service will be this Saturday February 6th and will commence with a viewing from 11:30am-1pm, service from 1-2pm, and reception from 2-5pm, at Skylawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 100 Lifemark Road San Mateo, California, with Father Healy officiating. Memorials may be made to the Yosemite Conservancy. Tom was a third generation San Franciscan who graduated from Riordan High School and Notre Dame de Namur University. He married his “sweetie,” Marie Giancoli on Valentine’s Day and spent thirty-five years with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. His commitment to the community was depicted throughout various association’s including; The Antique & Classic Boat Society, Commodore of the Tahoe Yacht Club, and a member of the Foster City Rod & Gun Club. Tom retired proudly from the work he had accomplished and spent the last twenty years living life to the fullest. You could find him cruising on his “Woody” in Lake Tahoe, playing Bocce Ball in his backyard with his grandchildren, and vrooming through the San Francisco Bay Area in his infamous “Bee” car. Tom is survived by his wife Marie of fifty-three years and two daughters, Sharon Strojny and Michelle Kirby; four grandchildren, Lauren & Sophia Strojny, and Zachary & Natalie Kirby; his sister Patty Duffy; and a large extended family and friends that he enjoyed.
