Thelma Taylor's Obituary
Thelma Taylor(1931-2012) Passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 6, 2012, in Redwood City, CA of natural causes after a lengthy stay at Sequoia Hospital. She is survived by her adoring husband Joe whom she married on April 26, 1957, daughter Linda Bertetta (Russ), sons John and Mark and grandsons Patrick and Christopher Bertetta and granddaughters Miranda and Alexandra Taylor, all of whom will miss her dearly. Dozens of nieces and nephews from Hawaii to California to Indiana mourn the loss of Auntie Thelma. Thelma was born in Maui, Hawaii on January 25, 1931. She was the loving daughter of Yamato and Untara Miyashiro. One of nine children, she was predeceased in death by brothers Masao, Seiji, Larry and Ralph Miyashiro. Her sisters Clara Ho, Peggy Miyamoto, Carole Kido and Sally Kato survive. Thelma was their rock whom they looked to for strength and lots of free medical advice. Thelma attended the University of Hawaii and graduated from Queen's Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Upon graduation she headed for San Francisco where she began her long career in nursing at the VA Hospital at Fort Miley and met her future husband Joe. Thelma was a fifty year resident of San Carlos. She worked at several VA hospitals before beginning her 30+ year tenure at Sequoia Hospital. During her last twenty years she was one of the outstanding nurses in Sequoia's Emergency Room, widely respected by the doctors, her peers, and the patients for the care she provided. Thelma, along with Joe, loved to attend her children's and later her grandchildren's sporting events whether at San Carlos Little League and Pop Warner, Serra High School, Aragon High or the Club teams the girls played on. She was always there to provide a 'Way to go' and a Gatorade and snack after a game. Some of Thelma's favorite times were spent at the cabin in Arnold. She loved family vacations-playing cards, games with the children and grandchildren, barbecuing, and fishing. Whenever Thelma was with her family, she was happiest. Thelma was a born care-giver whether as a helpful nurse, a loving wife, a nurturing parent, a devoted grandmother, a caring sister; she was there whenever and to whomever she was needed. We have lost a true angel of mercy. A memorial service and celebration of Thelma's life will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Skylawn Funeral Home on Highway 92 where her ashes will be interred. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the Sequoia Hospital Foundation, Emergency Room Fund in Thelma's name.
