Takashi Maruyama's Obituary
Born on March 26th, 1950, Takashi Maruyama led a life marked by love, servanthood, and unwavering dedication to his family. As the cornerstone of the Maruyama household, Takashi's unwavering support for Harumi and Christopher manifested in countless gestures, from chauffeuring Christopher to piano and soccer practices to ensuring a smooth start to each day by dropping him off to catch the Caltrain for school. His culinary prowess extended to preparing Christopher's favorite Japanese curry, a testament to the depth of his commitment. Takashi leaves behind a legacy of warmth and wisdom, a legacy that will be held dear by all fortunate enough to have known him.
Having earned a Ph.D. in Physics, Takashi's early dream of physics continued to be the driving force throughout his life. He would say that he dreamed about physics when he was growing up. His dedication to the field culminated in a career focused on developing and optimizing high performance photocathodes for polarized electron sources, a contribution to high-energy physics experiments at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and labs around the world.
Takashi was more than an accomplished physicist; he was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Harumi; his son, Christopher; his younger brother, Hiroshi Maruyama; his younger sister, Toshiko Kora; and the family dog, Lucca. A loving father, a caring partner, and a pillar of strength for those around him, Takashi's kindness and sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him.
In addition to his professional and family pursuits, Takashi harbored a deep passion for opera, played the flute, and was an ardent admirer of Japanese pop singer Nakajima Miyuki. Whether skiing down slopes, tinkering around the house, or tending to the garden, he found solace and joy in life's simple pleasures.
Takashi Maruyama's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit lives on in the memories of the love, laughter, and inspiration he shared with all fortunate enough to be part of his world.
