TAE UNG CHI's Obituary
Tae-Ung Chi was born in South Korea. He was the eldest child of seven siblings. He had 1 younger brother, and 5 younger sisters, embracing the responsibilities of being the eldest son. Tae-Ung married Nae-Sun and their marriage spanned 60 years. Together, they raised a son, Young-Sik, and a daughter, Young-Soon. Tae-Ung first immigrated to the United States, determined to build a better future for his family. Through his hard work and perseverance, he provided for his family and brought them to the United States three years later. He worked as a chef at many different places throughout his career, ultimately retiring from Hilton San Francisco.
He often shared stories with his family about the Korean War, the hardships he endured as a child in Korea, and the life he built after immigrating to the United States. He lived the American Dream, building a new life from nothing.
Beyond his hard work, Tae-Ung found joy in the simple moments of life. He loved San Francisco, a city that became his second home, and took great pride in showing it to his grandchildren. From visiting museums to walking along Fisherman’s Wharf, he shared his love for the city with them, creating cherished memories. In his later years, he loved to create: photo collages, booklets filled with memories, little pieces of time preserved for his family. He loved his family with all his heart.
He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his quiet strength, and the kindness he extended to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Nae-Sun, his children, and his grandchildren, as well as many relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A service to honor and celebrate Tae-Ung’s life was on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
