Su-Lan Mak's Obituary
Su Lan Mak Loo (Laulau to her family), born on December 1st, the lunar calendar year 1929 in China. She was the beloved first daughter of her parents, sister of her loving brothers and cousins, and was dearly loved by her children Adam, Iris and Vivien. Although she went through all the trials and challenges during the Second World War, she maintained a fighting spirit and had a positive outlook on life. She married Pao Hung “Peter” Mak in 1959. They raised their family in Taiwan.A beautiful person inside and out, she cared for many as nurse for over 30 years. She spent her retirement between Taiwan and the United States. She actively participated in raising all of her grandchildren, up to her peaceful passing on November 15, 2015 at Stanford University Hospital in California.During her retirement, she renewed her passion in Chinese Opera. She developed her skills and played the leading roles in several recitals in the Bay Area. She thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the Chinese Opera. She was considered one of the most talented lead singers in the amateur Chinese Opera community. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Adam & Julia, her daughter Iris, her older daughter and son-in-law, Vivien & Keane, and all her grandchildren, “Iris’ children”, Allen and May Lee and Vivien’s children, Chrissy and Nicky,We thank all our family and friends for the caring thoughts and kind support you have shown for Mother and for all of us over the years and especially during this very difficult time.
