Sue Kue Young's Obituary
Sue Kue Young December 21, 1927 to January 14, 2017Born in Canton, China and a longtime resident of San Mateo for over 68 years in the same house located on Idaho Street in the North Central neighborhood of San Mateo, passed away at the New Life Residence in San Mateo. She was 89 and was adjusting to her new home very well until her fall. This was her second major fracture in the thigh area in the last 5 years. She was able to recover from the first fall when she was 84. We were hopeful she would be able to recover again, but I don’t think she had the reserves in her to make it through again. Complications with fever and pneumonia were the cause of her death. She was an avid knitter and loved knitting sweaters and blankets which she loving gave to family members. Vegetable gardening was one of her passions and she was known for her gigantic zucchini squash which she shared with neighbors and relatives. She was a serious bargain hunter and loved using her coupons to find all her treasures. Her proudest moments involved being mother to six children, 5 her own and 1 adopted, Tracey. Family was very important to her and she tried for many years to bring her brother, Yet Low Chung, from China to the United States to start a better life. Through her persistence, she was able to bring her brother to the United States and for him to start a new life and enjoy all the freedoms that this country has to offer. My mother’s accomplishment to sponsor her brother into the United States allowed her brother to bring other members of his family to this country. My mother had limited resources and with her tenacity and determination, she was able to accomplish her goals and change the life course of the people she helped. We are all grateful for her resourcefulness and sacrifice. She is survived by 5 of her 6 children: daughter, Shirley of Foster City, sons and twins, Samuel and Steven of Sebastopol, youngest son, Stuart of Foster City and adopted daughter, Tracey Evans of San Mateo, 2 brother in-laws: Donald Jew of Walnut, Ca. and Jack Young of Foster City, 2 sister in-laws: Nancy Young of Foster City and Annie Jew of Walnut, Ca., Donald Jews’ four children from a previous marriage and their families, Jack and Nancy Youngs’ 1 daughter Regina and her husband Henry of Sunnyvale, Ca., brother, Yet Low Chung and his family of San Francisco and Daly City, nephew Patrick Young and his wife and 4 children of Cupertino, and niece, Marie Young of Daly City. She was predeceased by her husband, George Gee Young in 1997 and her eldest son, Stanley in 2004. Donations can be sent in c/o Samuel Young at 1117 Village Way Sebastopol, Ca. 95472 Services to be held at Sky!awn Memorial Park located at 92 and Skyline Blvd. in San Mateo.
