Su Chih Shu's Obituary
In Loving Memory Su Chih Shu Dec. 5, 1947 – Feb. 4, 2022
Mrs. Su Chih Shu, age 74 of San Francisco, CA, USA, made her transition on Feb. 4, 2022 at around 8:30pm at home due to the final stage of pancreatic cancer and organ failure. She left peacefully.
Mrs. Shu was born in Taiwan. She married An Hsin Shu, at the age of 20. She gave birth to two boys and two girls. They two are of one heart and have been married for more than 50 years. Mrs. Shu is survived by her husband, An Hsin Shu, her sons Jason & John, her daughters Alyssa & Susanna, and six grandchildren. She is loved by her family, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
The Shu family first moved from Taiwan to South America, and then they settled in the United States. They learned Spanish while living at Bolivia from scratch and adapted to the new environment. They later immigrated to the United States with their four children who had become teenagers and settled initially in Maryland. Shortly after, they moved to Virginia and opened their own restaurant. Immigrating to the whole “New World”, they had to face the language barriers and cultural challenges of new immigrants once again.
When Mrs. Shu was in Virginia, through the introduction of a friend, she received Tao and understood the eternal spirituality of human beings in addition to the body. Soon after, she and her husband set up a temporary altar at home and sincerely practiced daily incense ceremonies. She often made donations to the temple out of her loving and compassionate heart, and she willingly helped fellow Tao relatives. More importantly, she had a spiritual refuge in her heart and readily accepted the challenges she faced in life.
Mrs. Shu and her husband moved to San Francisco after the 9/11 terrorist attack in 2001. Through the introduction of a local Tao relative, the couple became part of the Zhong Shu Temple, USA. At that time, under the earnest teaching of Master Wu Dian Chuan Shi, she often attended Tao classes and became a vegetarian. Her passion in cooking served her well as a heavenly chief at temple and was part of the service team for many years. Her fried rice noodles and her selfless dedication will be missed by other Tao relatives forever.
After learning that she was ill, Mrs. Shu said that maybe God was joking with her, as her body had always been pain-free the entire life. During the treatment of illness, under the care of Masters (Dian Chuan Shi) and Tao relatives of the Tao community, she bravely faced the pain, used the Three Treasures and recited the Maitreya Sutra to calm the physical pain. When physical strength allowed, she sometimes even drove back to the temple to participate in incense offerings.
Mrs. Shu, you will always be missed in our hearts. We believe that your spirit in heaven will continue to care for your family and assist with the sharing and propagating Tao.

(Su Chih Shu)
12/5/1947 - 2/4/2022
