Marie Twomey
Ah Susie, one of my favorite people on the planet. I miss her already. She was such a wonderful, warm person, but she was so much more than that. Most people probably know that she was a terrific golfer, but not all may know what a fierce competitor she was. And she was best under pressure. She was a fantastic teammate. She was brutal to her opponents. She would very sweetly say something like, "Why you do that?" right after they had hit a ball into the pond. She looked so innocent...but boy, was she smart. I LOVED playing with her. But I also loved HER. When we were chatting she would often hold my arm and stroke it. I loved her emails, right up until the end. I loved that she was so grounded by her faith. I loved her spirit of adventure, and living vacariously through the pictures of her worldwide travels. I loved that she put four sugars in her coffee, because the sugar was free. I loved how she literally went out of her way to avoid the sun, which is quite a challenge for an avid golfer, and I loved the lightweight long-sleeved tops that she often wore while playing. I loved her sense of humor and how she spoke English - sometimes much better than others! I loved how it was so obvious how much she loved her family. But my favorite memory of her was once when she invited me to play golf with Mr. Kim and Mr. Pak, and Mr. Pak hit a ball toward a sandtrap. Susie and I were walking near the trap when Mr. Pak let out a stream of Korean. In response I said, "No, you aren't in the trap." Susie looked at me and said, "So now you speak Korean?" We both laughed and I said, "No, I speak golf!" Rest in peace my friend, you are forever in my heart.
