Socorro E Nevarez's Obituary
Born in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, Mexico, Socorro Enriquez Nevarez, wife of the late Max Nevarez, passed away peacefully on May 14th surrounded by her family. She was 96 years old.A resident of San Mateo since 1956, Socorro is the loving mother of nine children: Max Nevarez , dec’d (Ellen); Olivia Nevarez (Henry Zertuche); Gustavo Nevarez (Elizabeth Hernandez); Martha Zertuche, dec’d (Roberto); Rodolfo Nevarez (Kathy); Lilia Rodriguez (Oscar); Alberto Nevarez, dec’d; Graciela Stoklosa (Raymond) and Rose Nevarez. She was a devoted grandmother of fourteen and a great-grandmother of twenty. She is also survived by two sisters: Ofelia Bernal and Teresa Z. Flores.An avid seamstress and knitter, Socorro was often found creating beautiful clothing and accessories for her friends and family. But beyond her handiwork, Socorro found her greatest joy in children; her face would light up with just the presence of a child. Socorro will be remembered for her creative skills, her beautiful singing, and as the” Best Mom”, “Best Grandma” and “Best Cook”. As one grandson said, “Grandma can make anything taste good.”A Memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held Saturday July 1, 2017, 11:00 am at St Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1515 Dolan Ave, San Mateo, followed by committal at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
