Shirley Lou Dondo's Obituary
Shirley Lou Dondo was born on February 28, 1935 in San Mateo, CA, the daughter of Elinor “Dolly” Simmons and Anthony Patrick Cole. She spent her upbringing in Half Moon Bay, CA and was married at the age of sixteen to Jimmie Thrash. In 1952 she graduated from Half Moon Bay High School.In 1956 she had her only child, Kimberlee. Shirley was a homemaker for a short time until 1962 when she started work at GTE Lenkurt as a PC technician in Redwood City, CA. She worked as a technician for over thirty years until she retired from Silicon Graphics in 1999. Thereafter she moved to Stockton, CA to be near her daughter and grandchildren.When Shirley was a little girl she loved to roller skate. Later in life, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, and trips to Jackson. Those who knew her well will remember her for her lifelong loyalty to the San Francisco Giants and her love for cats.Shirley was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2014 and passed away peacefully on July 5, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her brother, Tom Cole and his wife Sandy, daughter Kimberlee Valdez and her husband Joseph, and her grandchildren, Chelsea Weilburg and Matthew Valdez.Shirley’s generous heart, love for her family, and great courage will be remembered and live on in those whose lives she touched. She will be laid to rest next to her mother and other family members at Skylawn Memorial Park in Half Moon Bay, CA in a private service.
