Shih Chih Chen Tong's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Toki, our dear mom.
Our dear mom, Toki, was born in Taiwan in 1944, and grew up during the peak of Taiwan’s agricultural and economic growth. She later accompanied our father to China and traveled the world to see her four children. This journey may seem wonderful, but the hardship involved was unimaginable. However, she remained optimistic and friendly. Even when she was belittled, she was tolerant and understanding of others’ difficulties. Although she had experienced various sufferings and successes in life, she was humble, simple, and kind.
She was brave for her children. Even not knowing any English, to see her children, she traveled around the world alone with the homemade translation cards. After our father passed away, she came to the US to live with us. It was an extremely difficult challenge to live in an unfamiliar country and face foreign culture and language. Even so, she never complained and made no demands on us. She just worked hard silently to overcome every obstacle. Her frequent words were “OK” (好), and “Thank you” (謝謝).
In the body of this seemingly small woman, there was a big and strong heart. Thank you, dear mom, for giving us life, always showing virtue, guiding and reminding us with your gentle wisdom. Your virtue is our best conscience.
