Sherman Shiels Hoelscher's Obituary
Sherman Shiels Hoelscher also affectionately known as Whitie, Shiels, Hocmeister and G-Pa, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 11th after a short illness at age 89.Born in San Francisco on October 11, 1926 to William Sherman and Jean Wilson Shiels Hoelscher. He was the second child and brother of Mary Page (Masson), (deceased 2013). Raised in Hillsborough he attended elementary school at South School and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1944.After high school, he joined the Merchant Marines. He was very proud to have served his country during the war.At the war’s conclusion, he attended College of San Mateo at the Coyote Point and Peninsula Avenue locations.For next 44 years he worked in the brokerage business at the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange as a board marker, member, Specialist, floor broker and partner with his father and later with his son-in-law Greg Burnett, then retired in 1992.In 1951, he married the love of his life, Yvonne M Newell (deceased 1998). They had two children, Jeffrey Shiels and Lori Page. They lived in Hillsborough for 34 years before moving to San Carlos.He is survived by his 2 daughters, Pamela Jean (Larsen), Lori (Burnett), son-in-law Greg Burnett, his son, Jeff, a niece, nephews, nine grandchildren and a great granddaughter.A memorial and burial service will be held on Sunday September 18th at 11:30 at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo. A Celebration of Life will be held afterwards.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pets in Need located at 871 5th Avenue, Redwood City CA 94063.
