Sandra Yuk Lan Hom's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Sandra Yuk Lan Hom (陳玉蘭)
Sandra Hom, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, left us all too soon on May 14, 2023. Her untimely passing has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. Sandra's warm heart, infectious laughter, and immeasurable kindness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on May 1st, 1968 in New York, Sandra loved growing up with her large family until age 10 when she moved to Honolulu Hawaii. There she continued her growth as a beacon of light and joy as she explored her growing passion for fashion and graduated from the University of Hawaii. Afterwards, she continued her interests by traveling to Paris, Tokyo, and various cities in China. She then decided to move to San Francisco to strike out on her own. She began her career in fashion design in a boutique women’s fashion house called Georgiou. However, Sandra’s destiny in the world of fashion was inextricably tied to her loving heart and compassion for helping those who needed help, applying her empathetic design talents at Gymboree children’s clothing for her next career move. Following that experience, she found her calling in helping others with personal projects such as wedding gowns, costumes, and other custom projects that required her meticulous design and sewing talents. Ultimately this led to her running Too Sweet Boutique, her own online company where she designed and created fun and playful carrying pouches for continuous insulin pumps for children with type 1 diabetes.
In 1995, Sandra met her husband, Wayne Hom. After dating for 2 years, they were married on August 24, 1997. They had their first child, Nicholas in 2000 and their second child Julia in 2004. Sandra decided to focus her energies on motherhood and stayed home with both children. She was a loving mother that did anything and everything for her family both big and small. All done with the deepest love and care. Sandra made it a point to take the family back to Hawaii at least once a year to visit with her parents and family. Trips to New York were also frequent to spend time with extended family members.
Above all else, Sandra cherished her relationships with family and friends. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, heard, and loved. Her radiant smile and genuine interest in others brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Sandra was always there to lend a listening ear, offer a shoulder to lean on, or provide a word of encouragement. Her steadfast support and love will forever remain etched in our hearts.
Today, as we mourn the loss of Sandra, let us also celebrate the incredible person she was. Let us remember her vibrant spirit, her untiring dedication to others, and her love for life. Though her physical presence may be gone, her memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.
Sandra leaves behind a legacy of compassion, love, and kindness. May we honor her memory by emulating the values she held dear and by spreading the light she brought into the world. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, dear Sandra. You will forever be in our hearts.
