Sally Doubleday Endriz's Obituary
Sally Doubleday Endriz, 72, of Belmont and Carmel Valley, CA, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 24 while vacationing in Hilo, Hawaii. The cause of death was double pneumonia.Sally was born in Portland, ME, on October 2, 1943, the eldest daughter of Glenn A. and Jean M. Doubleday, of St. Albans, VT. Sally graduated from Bellows Free Academy (St. Albans) in 1961, Middlebury College in 1965, and earned a M.A.T. from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) in 1966. Sally taught French for many years in CT and NY, and was the Dean of Girls at The Peddie School in NJ. After moving to Northern CA in the late 1970’s, she entered the computer programming field, working for Crocker and Wells Fargo banks in San Francisco.Sally met her husband John while teaching French at Ardsley High School, NY, in 1974 and was married in St. Albans, VT, on July 19, 1975. They resided in West Windsor, NJ, and moved to Belmont, CA in 1977. Her interests included reading, music of all types, and traveling the world. A lifelong love of the mountains began with her childhood in Vermont and later included the California Sierra Nevada and the Italian Dolomites. She was an avid hiker until the effects of MS limited her mobility. She dealt with her disease for almost four decades with heroic grace and dignity.Sally was predeceased by both parents, and is survived by her husband, Dr. John Endriz, her sister, Nancy Doubleday Demeritt and brother-in-law, Captain Christopher Demeritt, USN (ret), of Springfield, VA, a nephew, Stephen Demeritt, and his wife, Holly Demeritt, and their children Christopher and Kaitlyn, all of Manalapan, NJ.Sally was buried in a simple ceremony at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, on March 2, 2016. Her memorial service will be at the same location at noon, Saturday, March 12.Friends say that Sally had a smile that lights up the room. Despite great medical adversity she never complained, remaining always optimistic. She loved life, the mountains, her husband, the French language, Russian writers, Beethoven, and Pink Floyd.
