Ruth Drake's Obituary
Ruth Marion Cox was born in Battle Creek, Mich., on March 23, 1917. She attended Mercy College of Nursing in Detroit, graduating with her RN (registered nurse) diploma. During World War ll, Ruth joined the Navy nurse corps and was stationed at a naval hospital in Oakland, Calif.Ruth met husband-to-be Charles Francis Drake when they both worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was a medical student. They later married and had one daughter, Michele, in Los Angeles, Calif. While Charles was in his residency with the Veterans Administration, the family moved to Menlo Park, Calif.; Tomah, Wisc.; and Lexington, Ky., before returning to Los Angeles.When Charles passed away in 1984, Ruth remained in Los Angeles. She moved to San Jose to be closer to Michele in 1999.Ruth is survived by her younger sister, Jane Adams, and nephew, Jack Cox, who reside in Battle Creek, Mich., and her daughter, Michele Drake, in San Jose.
