Ruey-Rong Lii's Obituary
Ruey-Rong Lii was born in Nantou County, Taiwan on February 26, 1941 and was the youngest of four brothers and four sisters. Ruey-Rong graduated from Cheng Kung University in 1963 and left Taiwan for the United States of America to pursue PhD studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). In the summer of 1968, Ruey-Rong married Miss Lih-Woan Fong while in graduate school. After receiving his PhD in organic chemistry from IIT in 1971, Ruey-Rong proceeded to teach at Malcolm X College and conduct research at Argonne National Laboratories. In 1971 Ruey-Rong and Lih-Woan had their first son, Michael. A second son, Henry, followed in 1974. Ruey-Rong moved his family from Chicago to San Francisco in 1982 to establish Ten Ren Tea, a retail tea business, in Chinatown, which continues to this day. In 2001, Ruey-Rong became a grandfather, when Michael had a son, Payton. Beginning in 2007, Ruey-Rong made periodic trips to China to teach chemistry at Ten Fu Tea’s trade college and to establish a testing laboratory for Ten Fu Tea. In 2012, Ruey-Rong became a grandfather again, when Henry had a son, Mason, and again in 2014, when Henry had a daughter, Chloe. On August 14, 2016, Ruey-Rong peacefully entered in the joy of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by his wife and family. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus] has everlasting life.” – John 6:47. Visitation with Ruey-Rong’s family will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 1-5pm at Skylawn Funeral Home, Route 35 @ Highway 92 in San Mateo, California 94402. Memorial service for Ruey-Rong will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 starting at 2:00pm at Skylawn Funeral Home, Route 35 @ Highway 92 in San Mateo, California 94402. A brief graveside memorial service for Ruey-Rong will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 starting at 11:00am at Skylawn Funeral Home, Route 35 @ Highway 92 in San Mateo, California 94402. Please be aware that the gravesite is located on a windy, steep slope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Ruey Rong Lii to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or 1-800-227-2345.
